1782 One Real & 1888 Seated Dime

I decided to go look for a spot for a second fall hunt for my metal detector club http://www.greattreasure.com/ . I started looking through tax records I have access to for homes built prior to 1850 to zero in on a general location. Then I looked up farms in the area as well as looking at online maps and aerials. Came up with one that looked good. Figured I'd take a look and hopped in my car and off I went. About an hour later I arrived and drove up the driveway. As luck would have it the owner was just going from the barn to one of the fields and I caught him. I introduced myself, told him a little about the club and asked about getting permission to hunt. He was quite receptive as he was going to be paid for the inconvenience. After we agreed I asked him if anyone had been there with metal detectors. My heart sunk when he said there were a couple of guys, but he didn't think they knew much about their detectors or had very good ones. I asked if I could poke around a bit as I didn't want my club driving over an hour only to end up at some hunted out spot. He said no problem, go ahead. After about 10 minutes or so I get a decent signal and low and behold out pops a 1782 one real. Although I've found half reales and 2 reales, I never found a one real. It wasn't far from the house so I thought either this was a one off fluke or this could be a great spot. I figured instead of concentrating in this one spot I would float around the fields and other areas to see what they might produce. I detected for about an hour and didn't get many decent signals until out pops a 1888 Seated Dime. It was at least 100 yards from the first coin. I figured that's good enough for me to think this could be a great hunt for the club. If this place was detected, it obviously wasn't done that well. I packed up my detector and off I went, satisfied it would be worth the trip for our club members. I also found an old toy truck front end and a half dollar sized collector token. Turned out trying to do something for others paid dividends.

Nice finds Don! Did you get my text the other day? My phone locked up about the same time I sent it and thought it may have not gone through.

The reale is still fair shape. Lucky for your detecting club. Too bad the last one for this club here was at a beach but I couldn't make it that day. Either the previous detectorists weren't real good, or you are. Take your pick..

two great looking silver coins Don , bet them put a little "wiggle in your walk " , "step in your stride" and smile on your face . congrats and how do i join this club ;)??

2 great silvers that would make anybody's hunt. Hope you can let us know how the club makes out there. :congrats:on those silvers.

Great researching , scouting and negotiating for the club hunt .Great work on the finds and your pictures also .Will you be posting pictures here of some of the finds made during the club hunt ? I'm betting you folks are going to make some awesome finds there .

Yes, I do plan to post pictures of the club hunt. We do have another hunt scheduled earlier than this one. It's a place of over 100 acres we hunted last year. At that time at least 3 colonials came up and I was able to find one of them, a 1787 Connecticut. Also came up with a SLQ and some silver rings. Others did well also and I'm hoping to post from this year's hunt once with have it next month.
