Hello All!

Sorry I haven't been very active lately... but life, family, and work been... crazy... but I have been getting out once a week or so...

Today I hit a spot that Dan, George, and I have visitied a few times... This is private property and my 10th visit to the site... Chucl Scott from out detecting group went with me today...

From 9:30 to 2:30... not so much... lots of copper projectiles... Some lead... Some D buckels...

2:30 Then the Rosa Americana popped out... I should have left the hard pack dirt in place... gentle rinse with water... and the rose and the 172 gone... but I knew the coin immediately as I recovered on last year...

2:40... 10/35 and it was bang bang... No one would have missed this target @ 4, but I was luckly enough to get my coil over it... I was thinking Indian head... but knew that the ferrous of 10 was a little high... I was NOT expecting my first Spanish Silver...

1790 Spanish Half Reale... I know they heard me yell a county over :-)

I have another 5-6 hunts worth of recoveries to get pictures up for...

Oh yeah... I've been waiting 3.5 years to get Spanish Silver... Did I menetion Spanish Silver :clapping:

** UPDATE - Pictures of the 1722 Uncrowned Rosa Americana Penny **

Looks like a 172 on the top... and you can make the rose out a little in the middle if you know the coin...

Epi... The one with the bands through it South East of the Reale is a button or ciff link... It has concentric cencles on the back... Looks like silver on the back... but more like pewter inthe front ?? Read as 15 conductive... the the one below that is one side to a lead seal... 12/10 as it read during recovery...

WTG Paul....one might say that's hitting it out of the park. :cheering: It's good to see firsts by the veteran detectors. thumbsup01

Re: 1790 Half Reale and 1722 Rosa Americana Penny...

Finally you got your Spanish silver. Very nice. Gotta tell you this story. Within a week of getting my Prizm IV I got a 1775 1/2 reale at a park in my home town. Talk about luck...

Beautiful Spanish Silver Paul. <: :smitten:
One day I'd love to unearth one too. I can imagine your surprise when you first caught glimpse of her.
The 1722 is indeed in very rough shape... but it counts. :clapping:
It's great to see you posting your stuff again. thumbsup01

the Rosa Americana coins are extrememly hard to find in anykind of decent shape because of the composition (75% copper,24.7% zinc and .03%silver) and are always somewhat poreous because they had to heat up the planchets hot enough to be struck or the dies could damage the coin . when they did this often the coins would steam from gas escaping from tiny tiny bubbles in the metal.

Thx Dan and yes I am due form ribbing from you :happydance01: I was worried about getting skunked as it took 5 hours to find a coin that day... then two in 10-15 minutes... I was withing 50 foot of where we parked again working very slowly... The Rosa was not an obvious signal... but enough for me to investigate and recover... the Reale was a dead on obvious 10/35 and no one would have missed it... I was just lucky enough to get my coil over it...

Hey and just for the record... If you did plant it... THANK YOU !!!! :clapping:

Congrats on your 1st Spanish silver and the old copper! Very nice and glad to see your post again!
