1802 And 1803 Draped Bust Large Cent Spill

Saturday I took a drive to a site I had worked back in early May. It had yielded several old silver coins and a copper then, but this time it only coughed up three Indian Head cents, one of them a fatty, and one who-knows-what copper. It doesn't count. \:hammer: The Indian Head cents are in poor shape too. They are included in the following photo, along with some of the miscellaneous finds I made today.

Today I decided to detect locally, hitting the site from where I had pulled some coppers recently. It paid off big time! :happydance01: I managed three coppers. On one of them I am still trying to make a date, but the other two are in fantastic shape for dug coppers. They are Draped Bust large cents, dated 1802 and 1803, both found in the same hole. :happydance01: I wish the four Draped Bust large cents spill I made back in mid-May had been in similar shape. But then I would have ended up in the hospital while clutching my chest. lol

Here is the colonial copper, photos of it as found and after applying some coin conditioner.

It really is great to see old coppers come out of the ground having such great details. :smitten:

The site has definitely been pounded over the years, as John (midas) can attest to, but like any other site, not everything has been found. Thankfully. :happydance01: lol

Oh man... the '03 is tack sharp. :smitten: And the '02 is very close too.

Care to tell about the signal these two gave you? Were they from an area filled with trash or
did they scream out dig us? Or somewhere in between?

Great job Angel. I still can't help but wonder if you have figure out a way to get back to 1960 with your E-Trac. lol :thinkingabout:

It wasn't a 'dig me' signal on the initial passes. It was more of a slight crackle. :thinkingabout: There isn't much in the way of trash, as most of it has been dug up over the years, but the ground at the site is difficult, and the local EMI had my E-TRAC crackling a tad too, so deep signals can be missed if one is carelessly swinging away. But once I began to shorten my sweeps over the target I knew I had something good. :happydance01:

Angel you are pulling out Large Cents coin spills like the rest of us pull memorial cents spills! Congratulations I love the old coppers just something about them that reeks of history!

If you look at the dirty picture of the Geo II, you can still see 174 and I think the last digit my be an 8. So 174_ something lol Dan should be able to tell us if that profile version matches the estimated date.
