1818 Liberty Cap 25 C.

This spring I haven't been able to get much detecting in. My daughter's softball and work have kept me very busy. Most of the fields are planted or the hay is to high to swing so my cousin and I tried our luck in some small parks located along the river. Parks are way out of my comfort zone but since I took an extra day off I wasn't going to waste it. Lots of trash and clad but I did find my oldest US Silver coin. 1818 Liberty Cap Quarter.

What a beauty  I would be back at that park trying to figure out why that coin was there and where else along that river I would be detecting. That section may have been very active as a picnic area back in the early 1800's. Get back there soon. lol

Can't say anything more than the other posters. That is one spectacular find!

Thanks for the comments! It was the only coin we found in the whole area of the park / lawn. Not even a clad coin. Some more research on the old maps shows that there was a grist mill at that location.

It was actually in my plug only about two inches deep. I thought it was junk, but the E-Trac had a nice flutie silver sound to it almost to good to be true. Actually thought it was a state quarter at first...
