1851 officers sword belt plate

I found this sword belt plate on my second detecting trip. It was in the backyard of an old farm house about a foot deep also found a put&take (small dradle) thimble and good luck club token all solid brass.

Amazing that it was on your second trip out ever! It's in such great shape. I found US plate last year- yes, very exciting to find something like that. Old farmhouses are my all around fave places to hunt.

There are no numbers stamped and the shield has no stars only horizontal strips on top and vertical on bottom the designs vary.
 
very nice plate Joe ,all those similar types are patterns from 1851 . yours is one of the fewer types that the nickle-silver wreath stops short of the wings ( doesn't go past the top-side of the eagle's wings) and the rays over the stars don't continue past
around the wing tips. the book i have says its an enlisted man's belt plate from 1862-1863. congrats on a beautiful piece of history. |:cheering: |:cheering:
