1883 Woman's Relief Corps Badge

Digger Don

New member
I went back to the house that I hunted last weekend. I dug a few nice coins, I'll post those after I clean them.

This is what I think was my find of the day. A Woman's Relief Corps badge. The WRC was an official woman's auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic started in 1883. It appears to be hand etched.
The FCL stands for their motto: Fraternity, Charity & Loyaty

Thanks for looking!

That's waaaay better than any'ol silver coin if you ask me!
You'll find hundreds of more silvers coins before you hang up your detector for the last time. But you'll play hell finding another WRC badge or metal!
Outstanding find Don!
Congrats!

That's a great badge Don ! I love the design and hand tooled stampings , a beautiful and historic piece that would be proud in any ones display !

I haven't tested it yet. It rang up 12-09 on the e-trac. the back is coated with crud, but when I scratched the back it looks like gold.
I'll let you know when I test it.12-20-17 004.jpg

I think that corner of the yard deserves another "swing" as after Dave got the seated dime and I ran over there are machines were clashing big time. Bet there is more interesting stuff there and there is the vacant yard across from it we never did and I know who the owner is. :) Can't wait to get back out there and "swing."
