1904 World's Fair Pendant

I found this 1904 Saint Louis World's Fair pendant in an old ghost town in northern Missouri. It hit like a quarter, but I believe it is bronze.
On the front is a bust of Thomas Jefferson commemorating the 1803 Louisiana purchase.

On the back is a view of the Palaces of Electricity as could be seen from the Cascade Gardens.

Imagine yourself back at the turn of the century. You would have visited a magical, almost imaginary city. There were immense Palaces, stunning vistas, princesses and daily parades. It was a perfectly planned and constructed Utopian model for the future.

Remember, this was a time before planes flew, the Model T hadn't been invented, and electricity was new.

I believe it was engraved by Adolph Weinman, the engraver of the mercury dime and the walking liberty half dollar. It would have been struck at the Philadelphia mint, and was Weinman's first engraving job for the United States government.

Thanks for Looking.

Thats an interesting piece of history. I like the description of the time, no planes, no electricity, a simpler life.

Pretty neat find. The World's Fair was a REALLY big deal back in the day. Hard for us to appreciate just how big.
