3 COPPER DAY*SOME BUTTONS TOO

Got out with Gary to 2 cellar holes pretty deep into the woods.got a King George III crude counterfiet (rang up in the 30's on the VDI) in a wooded field adjacent to the cellar hole along with a pewter button.headed down to the cellar hole nabbed a tombac near lip then i started walking on the chimney pile rocks and got a nice 80's hit rolled over the rock stuck my pnpointer in and a KG II was under the rock.got inside the cellar hole swinging over the rocks in the lip and another nice hit.picked up one rock on top and sitting on the rock under it was the Connecticut copper.lookes to be a 1786 mailed bust facing left.the front is rough but the back is decent.2 broken shoe buckle frames.then we headed down to the 2nd site.got 3 dandy buttons all exact design dots around edge with a flower in center and another tombac button.was a little warm today but was a fun hunt. thanks for scooping me up today Gary.

wow great day Dave |:cheering: |:cheering: the crude counterfiet looks like a very simple sand cast type its in decent shape :smitten: :smitten: yup you got a 1786 mailed bust should be pretty easy getting a variety as there are only 43 types to look at. congrats :clapping: :clapping: by the way tell Gary he should really dress for them woods those ticks get mighty small to see on your person.

Dave the Connecticut is a 1786 Miller 5.9-B.1 pretty easy to identify due to the die cracks going through the 7 in the date and also going through lady liberty's head and it only being one obverse for this variety. its listed as a URS-7 with 33 to 64 known and listed as rare on the coin facts website.sorry the don't list starting price.

Dan i believe this is a sand cast countefiet.look at the imperfections on both sides where it seems metal didn't flow properly.maybe i'm wrong.obverse at 9 o'clock and reverse at 10 o'clock

i hit the lotto last month and just this past friday! |:cheering: 3 numbers each time for a grand total of $4.00! >:{

Dave to me it sure looks like the metal cooled a little to fast in that area of the mold before it could fill all the area nice an evenly. sand cast counterfiet coins are not very common but they are found once in a while . i know i have atleast one in my collection its also a George III Hibernia and read very low like a shotgun shell would .

erfect10: WoW ! Nice Coins and Buttons. That's cool seeing the Planchet so big like that. The CT Copper is really nice also. I swear, Dan's getting way to good at getting the Varieties right. He must have, say a book or something. 8/
I read something the other day about Buttons I never heard before. The article said Men wore buttons mostly for Fastening and Women wore them more as a Fashion Statement and Mostly weren't used to fasten anything, just worn as Decoration which explains why some are so big and Ornate. Makes sense to me, no?
