3 holes = 2 shoe buckles and an odd find.

Hiked out to a site I hadn't been to in some time. The plan was to try and sniff out a goody or two from the iron. The only problem was that I forgot that this one one of those old cellar holes that had hardly any iron. After 45 minutes of nothing but an occasional iron blip, I decide to just swing the coil in the woods as I hiked back out.

Wasn't too far from the site when my ear drums almost blew out over the first shoe buckle.

The chape and tongue swung freely when I knocked the dirt off.

20 more minutes of silence then another screamer.

This one had an iron chape and tongue.

Another 20 minutes or so of wandering through the woods I dug my third and last target. I had no idea what it was until I got home and looked it up. It's a Dayton Pikgard. You put them on chickens that would peck other chickens to death. Analogous to the mask they put on Hannibal Lecter

Went on the chicken like this:

very nice , why the buckles so far away from the cellar ? over grown farm fields ? or another reason ?

I'm glad you're still hunting!! We got a foot of snow last week :girlcry:
Two buckles...that's a memorable hunt, Jeff!! Any designs on the frames?

Thanks Gents.

Nice finds, never saw a muzzle for a chicken before.

Me neither Reb. When I was looking it up, I saw they also have eye glasses for chickens.:shocked01:

Dan I found them both near the edge of the swamp. I am guessing instead of walking to the old cart path to the west, they were taking a short cut and skirting the swamp to save some time. Just like I did.

Nothing but cool stuff! Gotta love that!
The first buckle is sweet!
Congrats!

As my friends in the UK would say, I was chuffed to find that buckle.

Awesome shoe buckles!

Never get tired of finding those Donnie B. I had the HF coil on at the time. Reactivity of 1 or even 0 is all you need in clean ground.

Yeah we only got 5-6 inches out of that last storm Drew. Both buckles are plain. You should be able to get out this weekend with all the rain that is coming.
