A couple of hunts.

I've been busy with work these last several days, so I thought I would catch up with my recent hunts in one post.

Saturday I made it out for just a tad more than an hour to test drive an old foundation. See it here.

Hunting these types of locations is a WHOLE different ball game. I must have put the equivalent of 200 hours on my coil during that 75 minutes. I banged, snagged and scuffed it on everything possible that morning. It is definitely a challenging way to hunt and my respect goes out to all you cellar hole hunters. |)

I did come up with these items. Any thoughts as to what the handle item is?

Sunday morning I hunted with a few friends that got me started in this hobby. Or as they say...
Responsible for creating the beast. lol
We went to a park on the Wisconsin side of the river for a little while in the morning.
I came up with these few keepers. I'm definitely planning a return trip to this little park
in a farming community. Gotta be some silver hiding there.

Monday evening I spent a little time before sunset at another park. Came up with a few keepers.

Tuesday evening I tried another small and very, very trashy park and pocketed these goodies.

Wednesday night I got in a few more hours at the same park I hunted last night. Loaded with some great advice
from Angel for hunting trashy parks... I managed to pull a silver and what is left of another one. Fire damage?

I know it's hard to see from the pictures, but viewing with a loupe I can see arrows under the Seated Liberty, stars on the obverse and text on the reverse. I can also make out 'Dim' on the back. So I would date this Seated dime between 1853-1855 based on the Red Book. :clapping:

Sorry for the long post and thanks for sticking with me on this one.

Boy'o boy you've been a busy guy!!
Saved the best for last why don't you lol To bad the seated is tore up crying01
But Oh well...it's a Seated!! <: A Seated is a keeper no matter what the condition thumbsup01
Great week of huntin' Joe !
Congrats

Yep... kind of what I think. The dime pre-dates the park by at least 50 years. It's holed, so no telling
the story on this one. It was a deep one for sure.

Great job jkress! :perfect10: Man, that park with all of those wheaties and Indian Heads looks like a fun one. Hope you pull many more goodies out of it! :clapping:

hey Joe the foundation site holds alot of promise and yes they are a challenging and different way to hunt but i can see some good rewards there for the persistant detectorist. i think you did well for your first time :clapping: :cheering: :clapping: and i would bet that the spoon is around the mid 1800's and your handle thingy is a keg tap key and probably dates around the same time . heres a picture of a few keys and tap that i've come across in the past. congrats on the indians , wheats and silver from the parks too.

Dan

A keg as in beer keg?? :beerbuddy:

Joe, you did great on the cellar hole :clapping: It is a lot harder than open spaces. You do an hour and the old arm starts to get tired fighting the down branches, vines and fern hidden rocks :eyebrow: But any one signal can make your day :happydance01: Some nice finds, but that Seated is making me :crying02: That park is trashy and that is a great thing for you lol More of them Indians and Barbers too I hope.

Well the Constitution wasn't written drinking water lol Beer or other mash type liquids I would think :dontknow: Also, some are maple syrup taps. But I'm sticking with the beer version thumbsup01

Congratulations on the silver and other old coins, especially the seated :clapping: There is more silver hiding in that trash

Thanks for the ID on the keg tap key. :clapping: I kind of guessed it was something like that.

I'm sure I'm leaving plenty of the shinny stuff behind... but at least I'm getting some of them. :happydance01:
