A decent hunt today

My buddy and I hit the only site available to us for a few hours today and I managed two decent finds. I also used today to clear a lot of iron targets so that when the field is plowed maybe they won't mask a good target.

The bullet were found in one field and the shield nickel came from a pasture. I think the bullet is a 36 cal pistol round. The shield nickel is an 1868 and the other bullet is about a 30 cal. I found the 36 cal. and my buddy found the other one. He also found a 1917 Merc dime in the field. I only used a water rinse on the nickel.

I'm no expert on Civil War era bullets by any means, but it sure does look like the pistol bullets I've seen posted on the forum and on some YouTube videos  thumbsup01
I like the snow white patina on the lead!
And of course the shield nickle is a sweet find too! |:cheering:
Congrats!

Are you able to see a date on the shield nickle? :-> On the ones I've found the dates are pretty hard to make out. :shocked04:stretcher: The dates on the SNs are tiny as it is! :shocked01: lol

comgrats on the lead and the shield nickle fyrffytr1 , its in pretty decent shape compared to others ive seen and found. |:cheering: |:cheering:

:congrats: Couple of nice finds there fyrffytr1. I'm still waiting on the ground to thaw around here to get my first hunt in for the year.

That's one good thing about down here, the ground never freezes! But, I do have to wear a jacket every now and then!

Congrats on the Shield Nickel, its in pretty good shape. Those little white dots must be something on your lens, It would look a lot better without them. Again congrats.

I think it was more of a reflection of the flash. The dots are small pits in the patina. Here are two from a slightly different angle.

Nice bullets and shield nickel. The shield nickel is on my wish list for this year, yours looks pretty good.
yep, agreed....some day we'll join you in the shield nickel club.

The bullet has been IDed as a 40 cal. CD Leet for derringer. It is the second one I have found at this site. The farmer should be plowing this field in the next month so, hopefully i will get some more finds to share.
