George suggested just soaking in extremely hot water for an hour to loosen up the crud then taking a soft toothbrush to it won't hurt it none and won't take the gilt off either .can you confirm the long I or not , Dave .

Reguardless which variety it may be ,that is absolutely an awesome find that most of us can only view in pictures from a magazine,and you actually dug it makes it that much more impressive.cograts on your historic day.
