A pair of 1818's today

Mike and I headed off into the woods at the crack of dawn this morning. About 15 minutes in, I found a pocketbook with its contents strewn about. I saw a wallet, credit cards and some personal items. I called the cops and continued searching the woods for finds. When they showed up I met them at the road and took them to the spot. The credit card wasn't expired so it looks like someone stole the pocketbook, took the cash and ditched the rest. Lots of D bags in the world... Anyway, I figured it was good karma to turn it in. And it was!

After the cops left, I continued my seach and the first hit was an 1818 large cent. Very nice shape too. Got the other LC an hour or so later. The second one is an 1818 also but pretty toasted. This is the 3rd Large cent from these woods in 2 days. There is a whole lot more to cover, Mike and I will certainly be back. Always a great time hunting with Mike![attachimg=1]

good job on the pocketbook report..and a great job on pulling those 2 largies! :clapping:

That was a great hunt Steve, those woods have a lot more to give. Always a blast getting out together, even though I just found a hash pipe and two wheaties lol. Congrats on the 2 LC's! That one is a beauty.

Nice double copper day Steve :clapping: But you have a mystery on your hands :thinkingabout: Why are three coppers out there? :thinkingabout: Hopefully you will stumble onto either a cellar hole or a picnic area. Either would be sweet  Congrats on the coppers, and maybe both will clean up well. :dontknow:

Wow... now that is a nice hunt right there!! :smitten:
Two early coppers. <: The first one will clean up very well.
Looks like an old button too. Congrats Steve.
Extra congrats for going the extra effort to return the wallet.

Nice going :perfect10: there are some serious numbers of large cents being posted on this forum . It's nice to be able to come here and see them . Sure wish I could find one . It's actually easier to find a Reale around here .

Those Large Cents are :smitten:

Even the toasted one looks a lot nicer than the ones I've found here in Illinois! Our soil is not kind to coppers at all. It would make my year if I found coins that old with readable dates! Just spectacular!

Amazing finds! Thank for sharing! :clapping:

very sweet finds Steve , and wtg for turning in the pocketbook too |) . i agree with George you have to figure out why theres much activity there and coppers , like he said a site close by or somekind of picnic area. congrats again :clapping: :clapping:

Really nice pair of old coppers! Should clean up nicely.

Can you post photos of them cleaned?
