Almost didn't dig this Colonial stunner

It rang up a 9 on my Nox 800, same VDI as a bunch of shell casings I had dug in that area. For that reason I started to walk away. Then I turned around and said what the heck just dig it. Then I saw it was going to be under a root and almost walked away again. So glad I stayed with it! I have dug complete Colonial shoe buckles before but never one that rang up this low. It's a 10 out of the hole.

Wow! That is a stunning shoe buckle for sure! How fortunate that none of its components are made of iron. What a beauty! It's a good thing you decided to dig it!

👍

Thanks Tony. If you look carefully you can see a little bit of rust in a few places closest to the inside pin. The pin is iron, but the rest of it is obviously is not. As for what the primary material is I'm just not sure.

What a great looking shoe buckle , I can't for the life of me think why it would read so low on your VDI scale . these are usually extremely high to even an "overload" on some machines . How deep was it ?

Thanks Dan. It was maybe 6 inches. I gave it an air test at home before my post and it rang as a 10 out of the ground. Yeah, other complete buckles I have found sounded so sweet and rang high like a silver coin or an ox knob. Puzzling.
