Another First = 1828 Large Cent

Digger Don

New member
Digger Al and I got permission tonight to hunt a house that used to be a stage coach stop back in the early 1800s.
This was the 6th time we drove out there, today was the first time someone was home. They told us to go ahead and good luck.
After about an hour and a half of digging wheats and clad, I got a 12-44-47 at about 10" deep and only about 6" from the front sidewalk. Finally, after digging down 11" I got it out of the hole. When I first saw it I figured it was another old Token, but then I saw the ONE CENT and the wreath. I NEVER expected it to be a Large Cent. Just another reason why I enjoy this Hobby. Anticipation and Surprises

WOW!!!!! You are KILLING it ever since you started using the e-trac. I think some of Tony's good luck rubbed off on you after you hunted with him. Congrats I am so happy for you. It sure cleaned up nice too. I'm going to have to start being jealous of you too if you keep this up. Best wishes and HH, Dave.

Thanks Dave. Your right, Tony was a big help when we first started with the e-trac. we have along way to go to get up there with you & Tony, But we're working on it. I think I'm Really starting to Hear what the machine is telling me.

Great find . looks like a great place to detect .... Yea , i still am not all that sure with my e-track , seems i should be hearing those deep signals , but just haven gotten the hang of it yet

Dang Don! :shocked04:
Your knocking out some tuff coins in your first season of swinging!
Congrats!
It took me 2 or 3 years before I seen my first largie come out of the ground.

Great looking coin. At this rate I'll be expecting you to post a gold coin real soon. :congrats:on yet another first.

:loveit: great copper Don , mega congrats on your first :clapping::clapping:I wish our soil out here was so forgiving .

Nice score. I still waiting for mine. Near the sidewalks seem to be a great place to check (as long as it's an original sidewalk).

I wish our soil out here was so forgiving .

....I know. The clad I found yesterday there was a penny that looks like a crescent moon. It's only a zincoln so it's not a big deal. I wonder what a cashier would say If I tried to use it. It's still legal tender. Maybe a good idea to trade in the clad coins to the bank and try to see if you get some wheats or mercs in the process.

Hey Don that is a beautiful coin. I remember when you used to say "you don't find those in Illinois, at least I don't". I haven't heard that since you got the Etrac. nice job.

Ron.

Wow, that's a terrific find, Don! Beautiful large cent, and it's an old one too! :loveit:

Your research and permission definitely paid off on that site! I bet that large cent really put a smile on your face. :thumbsup02:

Pretty soon you're going to be giving me lessons!

:congrats:

Thanks everyone for all the kind words. It has been a great season so far for both of us.
Now, if only I can find a V nickel. Thats next on my hit list

Beautiful Large Cent :groovy: I love the style of the 2's during that period. I knew just looking at the dirty picture that coin was going to clean up nice. You did a good job of not cleaning it too much!
