Another Saturday Hunt with Pretty Good Results

Digger Don

I was heading out for a hunt Saturday morning. When I got out to my car I was surprised to see it covered in snow.
Ok, I guess I'm heading south. About a half hour into the drive, I got a call from DaddyDigger asking if I was going out to detect. He said he was heading north from his home so we decided to meet half way.

My first find of the day was in a curb strip. It was an "Illinois Institution Deaf and Dumb" Button. I have since found out that that button was produced between 1850 & 1865. Very Cool! The institution appearently changed with the times and dropped the "Dumb" in 1903.

At the first house we hit, I dug a 1904 Indian and a 1943 merc. I also dug a Sterling hair pin ( I think ).The second house produced 3 more indians, an 1883, 1892 and an 1899. I also dug a 1912 Barber dime there. We hit a few more house with very little to show for it. At the last house of the day, I dug a 1917 Buff and some kind of buckle with a patent date of 1875.

Sunday, I went out for a few hours and dug an old token or medal and a 1964 rosie.

Very nice finds Don (sigh... I never get tired of seeing those Midwest Indians :daydream:)

Indiana coming out nice as those is pretty hit or miss in my neck of the woods. I'm sure the sentiment is returned concerning the big coppers you get. :notworthy:

Grats on the finds, Don. Seems like other than the thread for the buckle, you got enough research on the other items. I like the hair clip. I am a little surprised at the information about the institution... I thought society still referred to said people as 'dumb' up until the 40's or even later. They got politically correct earlier than society.

Hey Don, Great bunch of finds and glad we got to meet up. That was crazy about the snow on your car! I can see your back mark and it is SCOVILL MF'G CO WATURBURY which puts it's date of manufacture 1850-1865. No telling how many thousands of them they bought though or when they actually went on a uniform. Awesome digs! HH, Dave. 18 more days! :cheering:

Sorry we didn't find more Sunday buddy, but the stove token is very cool. Think your luck will flip in Connecticut! And your Saturday hunt was awesome!

Took your advice to Don, and used CLR on a civil war button I dug last year and all the gold shows up now! So thanks to you. :)

Nice Hunt! That Illinois button is cool and the 1964 Rosie looks like it has a doubled "4." Does it?

Great bunch of finds, Don! Those Indian Heads look really sharp! Ever since I moved to southeast Illinois my Indian Heads don't look as nice.

I really like that buckle too, I've never seen one like it. Pretty cool that it has the patent date on it.

Very nice sterling silver hair barrette too!

:congrats:

Saw the video first, great video as always. You know Wisconsin, don't like the weather just wait a day. Wow what a weird early season. Great bunch of finds Don. Wd
