Any ideas?

Me and my hunting buddy both found one of these last weekend. They appear to be copper and are about an inch across. My buddy's clearly says "PATD AUG.11.1903" on it.

Any idea of what these might be?

I have located these before usually marked schrader or universal valve, it is a piece off a valve stem or valve stem replacement for bicycles.
