Branching out to Ohio for some Keepers

Tony Two-Cent

Administrator
This past week me and DaddyDigger took our annual road trip to Ohio. By last Sunday afternoon we were hunting a couple of old parks in the Dayton area. On Monday we met up with Bell-Two for some more park hunting. Thank you for your warm hospitality, Tony! We sure appreciate you showing us some places to hunt. It is always a pleasure detecting with you.

I'm almost embarrassed to show my finds after the week DaddyDigger had, but I am still happy with my results.

Here are all of my coin finds for the week:

9 Indian Heads
22 Wheat Cents
42 Memorial Cents
25 Zincolns
2 Shield Nickels
40 Jefferson Nickels
4 Mercury Dimes
1 Rosie
18 Clad Dimes
1 Silver Washington
22 Clad Quarters
1 Kennedy Half (1971)

It was enjoyable finding some older Indian Head Cents. I ended up with Indians dated 1868, 1869, 1876, 1879, 1880, 1885, 1885, 1889, 1893

I got two Shield Nickels: 1867 and 1868

Nothing too exciting in the silver department, but I was happy to get them.

Silver ring that I found in a ditch on our last day of detecting. It is a Sterling Espo ring:

Union Pacific token dated 1934:

I found this metal ID plate on our first day in the first park we hunted. The full name and address is legible: William Melson, 148 Hanover St., Dayton Ohio

Some of the other miscellaneous relics:

And just in case you think everything we dig is something good, here's a week's worth of junk:

Thanks again to Bell-Two for his kindness and to DaddyDigger for the fun week of metal detecting.

Thanks for looking and happy hunting! :beerbuddy:

Great finds Tony! Thanks so much for making the trip with me again this year. Your friendship and camaraderie are the best treasure one could ever hope to find! That token sure cleaned up well and what a nice surprise it is! The DoD plate also cleaned up real nice. Have you Googled his name yet? If he is deceased he will show up in the SSN death list. I still haven't finished sorting out all my clad and junk. I'm not sure where I put the gold-plated necklace, maybe it's in my car somewhere. Thanks again for a GREAT 6 days of MDing and HH, Dave.

Nothing to be embarrassed about there Tony , I would love to score so many great coins and finds in a week .Two shields and a tribe of nice Indians that's a bonanza in itself .Congrats on a great hunt.

And what a week it was. Those wheat's are nice and green with some early dates. The 2 shield nickels alone would have made my week. Nothing old in the silver department but at least you got some.

Over all looks like the week was a success. Being able to spend a week detecting with a detecting buddy is priceless.

I'm glad you and Dave both had a great week.
Everyone of your Indians seem to be in very nice shape.
you got yourself a great variety of finds.
I especially like the Army ID plate, it's really sweet.

Congrats

:wow: Great tribe of Indians all in great shape...the two shield nickles are great finds..I also like the Washington im still looking for my first I'd say a great week of detecting :congrats::perfect10:

I wish I could be so embarrassed. Those early Indians are very nice coins and 2 shields are pretty darn impressive. I'd say both you guys had a great trip. Ohio seems to have rewarded your trip pretty well. Nice hunts. WD

very successful tour Tony and with great company (and competition too!) the "keepers after a light cleaning" picture is an awesome shot sir :clapping::congrats:

That is a bunch of nice finds Tony, a fine array of Indians and two nice Shield nickels is a good week of detecting! :congrats:

Nothin' to be ashamed of there Tony! :shame:
Sure Dave found a mid 1800's silver half in near mint shape. Whatchya gonna do? :dontknow: Oh yeah, and 3 2 centers.
I mean how can you compete with that? :dontknow:  You gave it one heck of a shot. I mean come on, 2 shield nickles?
Who else but you? 9 Indian Heads? :shocked04: Only you my man! :clapping:
Does that help?
All kidding aside, you had a nice week of hunting. It was better than mine. I didn't hunt at all, plus I went to work every day! :barf::lol:
Plus you got to hang out with some great people and do what what you love. Can't ask for much more than that. ;)
Congrats!

Nice finds Tony, they clean up nice. How do you clean? Especially the nickels? And thanks for showing us all your junk.

Nickels are always the easiest to clean for me. I just scrub them with a toothbrush using soap and water, as they can't be damaged easily.
