Made my way early this morning got to the site just as the sun rose over the trees. The ground was 1" frozen mud. The corn field was WINDY!! It was a fun hunt. Finds were few...some aluminum bits, a few pieces of lead , modern copper bullets, until I got to a 50 foot by 50 ft area that was somewhat recently been plowed and there were brick bits, and pottery shards strewn about. I decided to really get thorough in this area, and within a few steps I had found a buckle half, and a few more rows over I got a solid 79 VDI at 2.5". I figured more can slaw....Boy was I wrong. 1797 Draped bust. Made my hunt. I will hit that field more. Its one I have hit less than the 3 others from this property. Happy to have saved one more copper. Happy Hunting!!

Pics of the LC are not so good, trust me there is detail there and I am just going to leave it as is. It gives it character. LOL!!

Added a newer pic of the draped bust. Thank you.

Great find! I hate what chemicals do to coins in the field... Are you sure you don't want to soak it in some olive oil?

That draped bust is an incredible find! Almost looks like 1798 over 97 but it's hard to tell.

Congrats on the amazing coin! :notworthy:

great coin Tim , sounds like you found an old home site in that field . hope you get more goodies from the re on your next visit.

WTG on rescuing a frozen copper! I was out yesterday afternoon and MAN was the wind blowing! I was warm though, plenty of layers & saved an 1899 IH.

Wow that is a nice coin, congrats on braving the weather. I got 4 virgin sites to hit and the weather just nasty. Went out to check one and kept fairly warm except for my hands, got some new gloves that I hope that help. Any suggestions on gloves anyone, you guys in the North East have more experience than us Midwesterners in dealing with the cold.:frozen:

Nope, we just freeze  I just use my regular cheap gloves. When it gets real cold you can try some cotton gloves under the regular gloves. You can also try some hand warmers tucked in your gloves too.
