Buckles, bells and other assorted items

Had a chance to get out a bit over the past few days, doing a 2 hour hunt this past Wednesday morning, and another few hours Thursday evening. On a bit of a coin drought in the past week or so, but did manage two nice crotals and several buckles. Did electrolysis on the buckle at right in the wide shot and the results were quite good imo. Also pulled a Model-T hub cap, reigns guide and what I believe are a whistle and a carriage skein/brake. Items nicely date the site (1870-1925). Thanks for looking and HH.

Finds like those would keep bringing me back.....:congrats:It has been quite awhile since I've seen a crotal bell in the hole....:thumbsup02:

Great crotal bells John :smitten:, the whistle looks old is it pewter ??

Not sure Dan, and yes, I thought it looked quite old as well but wasn't positive. How do you tell whether pewter or not? School site dates from the earlier half of the 1800s, and the VDI numbers were in the 45 to 60 range.

John , old pewter tends to crumble and be flaky when it drys out on the edges . I would bet the whistle is at least mid 1800's or older .

Because pewter does what i mentioned earlier i carry a small plastic ziploc to pack my pewter finds with the moist dirt , this keeps it from drying out and crumbling apart until i clean it.
