Canadian Fishscale

We finally got some rain last week, so my father and I were able to hit a spot we've been working this year. In previous hunts it has yielded a ton of wheats and a handful of mid 1900's silver. I definitely would never have expected what I found this time around though - an 1872 Canadian 5 cent piece. It's always fun digging a "first" like this. I can only hope to dig the US version someday.

In addition my dad scored a merc and a war nickel and I also found a couple of dateless buffalo nickels and a '47 quarter. Good times!

Nice coin, I am from upstate and would occasionally find Canadian silver, since I moved to philly not a one but then again I’m a little farther from the border than I use to be. Beautiful coin.

Wonderful find, Matt! They are tiny little coins, aren't they? I've never found one but I was with DaddyDigger when he found one in a central Illinois school yard. Yours is a very nice example and old too!

:congrats:

Nice find! Did it ring up like an indian head cent? Tony Two-Cent was with me when I found one a couple years ago at an old elementary school. There's two coin chicks I always thought were super hot: The lady on the SLQ and the young Vicky! Wowza!

Nice old silver! It is cool to think that it was minted only 5 years after Canada became a country.

Another one of my wishlisters!
Cool find!
Congrats!
What type of signal do they give? Like a zincer? IH like?
