Cashed in my scrap copper today...

My hubby was taking some old aluminum chairs to recycling center and asked me if I wanted to cash in my years collection/5 gallon bucket of scrap copper. I said sure! thumbsup01 and it weighed in at 14 lbs and came home with $43.53! That's from pipe, wire and little copper odds-n-ends. Definately worth putting it in your 'treasures' pocket!

I've been cashing in my clad this year periodically to buy some nice silver coins- a couple Barber halves, 1896o Morgan dollar, a few SLQ's, half dimes and such. With my copper $ I'm thinking of buying a nice key date copper coin. Any suggestions? I've only found 3 coppers, a 1820, 1833, 1851 (Queen Victorian half penny).

For small cents, the Flying Eagle is a nice coin. You can generally bid on ebay for them and get a pretty good one or work your local dealer for one. But as with all coins, beware of cleaned coins, especially ones done a long time ago. For larger coppers, any Large cent that is in the best grade you can get makes a good choice. You won't find any key date coins for under many hundreds of dollars. Some semi key date coins can be purchased for just a bit more than what you have. Any date Indian in xf or higher is always nice to look at too. I would go with a common date coin in at least XF or AU (like a 1916 Merc). This way you can get all the different designs of coins in high grade. Try and get the oldest, common date coin in each series. (like that '16 Merc) Just a thought.

Good take on the recycled copper, I just started saving my copper this year, I now get a little excited finding that copper pipe or flange.
