Nice close up. I have been trying to nail down the variety and I think it's Breen # 1797 or better yet Newcomb 3. Here is a link to PCGS's varieties of the 1818 Large cent. You can click on each Newcomb variety and compare it to yours. If anything pops up to get you to go to a different section, just close it out

But, pay close attention to two star locations. The first star to the left of the date and the star at the 2 O'clock position (close to the hair bun). Watch where each of them point to. That is why I think it is a scarce variety Newcomb 3. Check all 10 varieties and see what you think. Congrats on a nice coin. |
