We hit a hunted out site today and it turned this up... any help out it would be greatly appreciated .. context found colonial homesite to civil war era ......

Congrats on some early gold! Looks like an antique pin. The "snake coiled around branch" theme has been popular for a long time, even back to Roman times so probably a decorative early jewelry piece and likely hand made. Really neat. Congrats.
