Complete 1600's silver washed Trifid spoon!

Hi everyone,

Got out with Dave Wise (Heavymetalnut) this past Sunday. It was a beautiful day to be out in the woods. Finds were very scarce but I pulled up my very first complete, silver washed, Trifid spoon from the 1600's. It also has a touch mark from a spoonmaker of, possibly, three spoons pointing up and down on the bowl. The spoon was 10" down under a rock on the lip of an early cellar hole. I couldn't get the rock out so I had to dig under to get the spoon. It was quite a shock when I pulled the whole spoon out.

Amazing relic, the craftsmanship back then is beautiful ,love the deep bowl! Looks like it got a lot of use and the person was obviously right handed congrats on a Museum quality piece.

The spoon is very thick and sturdy. The bowl is worn into that shape. I can imagine a Puritan eating his beans (right-handed) with this spoon for decades producing the wear pattern before it was lost.

In my experience, yes, it is rare to find the early spoons in one piece. I have an almost complete pewter rat tail spoon but, as you know, pewter usually doesn't hold up well and the spoon is, well, ratty with holes in it. I also have the handle of another Trifid spoon that I dug last year. I did have to put in some work on this one. The only thing I could see protruding from under the rock was the edge of the bowl.
