Finally getting some breaks in the weather here in Ohio we were able to get out a few times. First hunt turned up a couple of buttons including a broken pewter and a very early harness strap guide. On Monday Diane and I went to a later era site we have hunted several times, she got an 1888 Indian and I got a trade token along with some buttons for both of us. Tuesday it was warmer but very windy. We did a long hike out to a site that we only had chance to hunt twice before. It was a very productive site for us in the past and we were eager to see what we could find and we were not disappointed as I got a beautiful semi-key 1869 Indian Head and a 1843 Large Cent and Diane had two big Coppers an 1835 and 1835. Also got some buttons and some early iron relics.

What fantastic finds Tony and give my congrats to Diane as well! That '69 IH is in fantastic shape indeed...one of the best dug IHs I've ever seen posted on the forum here. It may even beat some of Digger Don's beauties. I also dug a very similar type saddle strap guide last December (see attached), and just guess circa 1800. Do you have any references on how to date those?

The reference I used was Bill Dancy's Virginia Colonial Artifacts book here is a picture showing the reference.

Lots of great finds Tony! That guide is really cool, and those big coppers are sweet! Always love those old tokens too, especially in as good a shape as yours. Gets the hopes up of pinpointing a specific point on history and the person there. Great save on the IH too, it's really a looker! I have a suspicion that this forum is going to see more than a few like that this year judging by the early start.

That's a ton of finds, Tony! That Indian is old for being in such good shape! People tell me that all the time  I wish. Congratulations!

Those were some very productive hunts, Tony! So many wonderful coins and relics! That 1869 Indian Head is spectacular, and it's a semi-key date as well. EF-40 details at least which would make it guide for $445 if not for the environmental damage. Wow!

:congrats:

Tony, you and Diane have a great pile of keepers. That 1869 IH is stunning and I will agree with BTV digger that it is probably the best looking 1869 I've seen posted.
