CTX 3030 on the beach

I'm heading to the beach next week and plan on using the CTX but was wondering if the larger coil would be more useful. My limited experience with the larger coil on land was that it picked up too much and I had some difficulty pinpointing with it. I'm guessing that I was not using it on the right kind of site but the beach should hopefully be cleaner and I was hoping that it would give me a little more depth. If not depth then at least a little more coverage area. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Bob hopefully someone can shed some light on this subject for you , all i can add is you don't want to be swing to close to my TDI SL as it will cause you all kinds of EMI . well it does atleast for George's ctx anyways lol lol.

Thank you Dan. I usually stay well away from other detectorists (although on the beach it's difficult because there are so many of them ) so I don't think it should be a problem but it's good to know.

My son and I are both looking forward to meeting you and I hope we can find a few minutes to chat.

Is the CTX up to date on it's downloads? Then it will have a seawater setting that will quiet the machine in the water. If it has a seawater setting, then use it only in the water. On dry sand use the beach mode or any other mode you like. Run auto + 3 if you want stability over super depth. Run manual as high as you can before it falses too much if you want the depth. But don't be afraid to change settings to get the max out of it. Each beach is different, so I suggest burying a nickel at 10 and going through the settings to see the best one. Good luck and don't forget to post that 3 Carat diamond ring you are going to find thumbsup01

Thank you for the reply. My main concern was whether I should use the larger coil so for what it's worth, I'll just add these comments if anyone is interested with the caveat that someone else's results could vary for sure. My first day I had some issues as far as settings (yes, my software is up to date) and getting use to the weight plus the fact that at times it picked up multiple targets to give a strange signal. I almost put the stock coil back on but after tweaking the beach settings a bit I got use to the way it was working and really liked the fact that it covered a lot of area although I did notice that I was the only one using a large coil :thinkingabout:
Discrimination could be an issue and there was a real good example. I hit a signal that I didn't think was worth digging but with my son being nearby I asked him to check the signal with his Sovereign GT. It turned out to be two clad quarters and two pennies spread out a bit in a small area. I made sure after that not to ignore even trashy signals. In any case, I ended up using the larger coil for the whole time.
