First off my apologies for posting late , this is last Monday's finds :embarrassed:

Went out on President's day in hopes that the 5 to 6 inches of snow that we got on Saturday night/Sunday melted with the high temps afterwards. :crossfingers::crossfingers: So Donnie and I and a couple of friends trudged through the wet snow (I put on more than 4 miles that day ) but the snow seemed a bit to deep as by 1:30 pm nobody had anything worth mentioning :hairpulling::girlcry:

We stopped by the site that coughed up my Rev War Naval button a few months ago and to my surprise the large Pine trees cause all the snow underneath them to be melted and forced me to concentrate in areas most to just pass by . With only an hour to hunt before dark I managed some good finds that included a nice ornate flower designed furniture escutcheon plate a button (plain) , a trigger guard and a matron had large cent . Feb. 18th finds.jpg

The escutcheon plate has a very very close resemblance to a "Tudor Rose" a popular and sometimes military (Royal Navy) motif of the late 1700's era feb.18th tudor rose escutcheon.jpg

The trigger guard also had a nice floral design engraved on it feb.18th trigger guard dirty.jpgfeb.18th trigger guard flower engraving.jpg although both ends are broken off (which help greatly to id these to what musket or rifle ) i'm still pretty confident this was probably off an early 1800's fowler or Pennsylvania long rifle .

The coin was found when it was dark and I couldn't get a decent picture at that time but its a pretty dirty coin feb.18th matron front dirty.jpgfeb 18th matron reverse dirty.jpgbut should clean up fairly decent .

Good finds Del. You got some variety for sure. One of the things I learned in Meteorology was that pine needles give off infrared radiation in a wavelength that melts snow!

How many trigger guards have you found?? I recall some nice ones. Still on my buckle list. Very pretty pattern on that one...nice work! :clapping:

Drew , trigger guards are more common than stock plates and side plates for some reason , who knew?

Nice to see you working for some nice finds Dan! Really like the ornate, period escutcheon plate. It's getting close to digging time up here in northern NE, but still a few more weeks off. No snow on the ground here, but earth is frozen rock solid from 2-10" down.

That site has been really good to you Dan. The Tudor Rose pieces are especially intriguing. I said pieces because the design on the trigger guard looks very Tudor to me. When you add up all of those finds that is a very interesting site! I wonder what we will find tomorrow?
