Earwig Looking Thing

Got out before dawn this morning for a short hunt.:thumbsup01: Dug a cool old saddle decoration, 7 buttons, musket ball, and an unknown item. Kinda looks like a pincher bug. :lol:

Is there a hole at the top of it? Maybe a fancy zipper pull from a pocketbook or something like that?

Nope, no hole. It has so many intricate parts that it looks as though it would be a "part" of something bigger....but it is very ornamented and doesn't look to have been broken off of anything else. Thanks!

That's pretty ornate for a zipper pull but that is the most likely thing that I can think of. Neat piece.

I have no idea what that thing is Drew :lol: but it looks older than a zipper pull. Is it pewter? From what I read the zipper really didn't take off until after the 1900's. Some reading here:

The other piece you have may be the back plate (Escutcheon) from a small drawer. The engraving is similar to some of the plates we see on larger drawers. The knob would have held it in place. Just a guess on it.

its pretty intricate for its size , heck it could even be somekind of Native American trade piece or talisman charm piece . it does look kind of insect related doesn't it .
