Fake 1/2 Real, Buttons, couple of unknowns.

Went back again to one of my old sites that is going to get developed soon. It's kind of a sprawling site so I poked around in some of the remoter corners that I had pounded so much over the years. Dug a couple of deep brass thingies. I think the one with the "claws" is a harness decoration. I have no idea about the other. It's heavy brass and it has some holes drilled in it. Almost looks like it could have been a broken flange of some sort ???

Also snagged this phony 1/2 real 1782. You can see the edge of the silver plate and base metal in several places.

Managed a couple of pewter buttons, and a nice gilded Lewis and Tomes civilian button.

Some nice finds there. That fake Reale is really cool! Funny, but I would think the effort and risk to make it would far outweigh the value.

You'd think that going to that much trouble to make a fake coin they would at least make the hole round  Nice assortment of finds

Very nice but no shoe buckle ? I love the counterfeit half real , don't se many found that's for sure . :notworthy:

I thought the same thing Digger. But I guess if you make enough of them cheaply, it might be worth the effort.

I think the fake is cool. Very nice digs

Agreed Todd. Something different anyway.

Love that counterfeit! You are always squeezing keepers out of pounded sites! Keep it up Jeff!

I like the challenge Drew. The Deus makes it easy to try different strategies but it is a hard type of detecting. I have a few remote middle of the woods sites that I know I can detect in peace. I think I am becoming a detecting recluse ! :shocked01: All the easy stuff has been found but you know there is still a lot in the ground. Sometimes it's just a matter of getting lucky and approaching an iron-masked target from just the right angle. As you well know, it's impossible to properly grid the types of sites we like to hunt.

I agree Chief. Is it too much trouble to use an awl instead of a square nail ? ;)

Dan if you are the shoe buckle King, that would make me the shoe buckle village idiot.
