First 2 Hunts for 2013! 9 Silvers

I assume most detectorists in the north east took advantage of the abnormally warm weekend. I know I did! I can't believe the foot of snow we had melted in only a few days. :bananadance:

Friday & Saturday I kept clearing out an old, late 1940's apartment complex that I got permission to hunt early December of last year.
I thought I had pulled most of the silver already, but I was wrong!

In order I found:

1947-S Rosie, 1938 Merc, 1948 Rosie, 1943-P War Nickel, 1937-D Merc, 1954 Rosie, 1908 Indian, 1916 Merc (wow is it worn! Rang up 12-41 on my E-Trac, which is worse than some wheat signals!) 1946 Rosie & a dateless SLQ. Dug 23 wheats too. I was very happy with the variety to start the year. I didn't expect anything like this!

I got out yesterday and today for 5 hours combined at some semi-old schools. But they are pretty much hunted out now, just picked up about $6 in clad and a few stray wheats.

:wow:

Now THAT'S how you start the year off! Look at all that silver! :loveit:

Nice variety of coins too. Finding an SLQ is always a thrill!

I assume you checked the 1916 Merc thoroughly for a mint mark. Yep, those worn silver dimes aften ring up like a wheat cent on the E-Trac.

Fantastic way to start 2013! Congrats JD!

:congrats:

JD, excellent hunting. That apartment complex has been good to you. :congrats: on all the silvers, especially the SLQ |:cheering:

Tony, yes, I checked VERY carefully. It's very worn where the mintmark would be, but I would still be able to see the top of a letter if there was one. :crying02: The funny thing is, last year when I started detecting, THREE of the first 4 mercs I found were 1916 (one P and 2 S) so starting out the hobby I got to have a few heart attacks. lol Since that run on 1916's early last year this my first one.

And thanks aloldstuff!
It's going to take me a while to get to know all of your names by heart. So please be patient with me. :)

A fun and sweet hunt, JD! That is a nice pile of silver! :clapping: A good way to take advantage of the warmer weather this time of year. |:cheering:

MIKE54, I do decent around my area because not many people detect around here. But since I only started detecting seriously a year ago I've cleaned out most of my local spots. So it will be tougher this year unless I travel more (I actually might be relocating out of state soon) The people that live in Pittsburgh PA have it made! They just drive around to hundreds of different parks and usually pull silver. I know multiple people there that pull over 100-200 silvers or more a year from parks alone. Sheesh!

And to everyone else, thanks!

Those are from 2 days of hunting, 3 the first day then the rest. Had a great time. :)

Snowing here again and REALLY cold, so probably won't get out for a while. Hunted a new spot today that didn't work out, only lasted 45 minutes in the cold. Found 99 cents in clad and nothing old :-\

Score!! :peace: Very nice bunch of keepers JD. :smitten:
I'm hoping to get out for my first hunt of 2013 tomorrow. I'll be happy with just a fraction of what found here.
