First frost free hunt of 2022

Have got out a few times this year but was very restricted on where I could dig due to frost. Sunday was the first hunt where all the ground I hunted was thawed. Had a good hunt with 3 silvers a few wheats and some clad. Got 1 Washington a 1900 Barber Dime a Rosie and 3 wheats. Supposed to be a decent week so hopefully can find a few more coins this week. Felt great to get out on an unrestricted hunt. Wisconsin Digger

Nice way to start the year! I still have lots of frozen tundra to deal with. Ground seems soft until you dig and hit the permafrost about 2 inches down. A couple spots I chipped through to the target and even at 6 to 8 inches down it was still frozen. I think the shady areas will take at least another month of warm weather to thaw.

Congrats on three silvers including a nice Barber Dime! Were these found in a park or on private property?

Good job! Spring is finally here! Yay!

Tony, the area is a large old HS area that is still part of the school. I have been hunting this place for about 5 years and it has been great. I think the original property had some homesteads on it as I have found large cents here (1818 & 1847) and a 2 cent piece. I believe I have found close to 20 barber coins here as well. Yea, Chris the open areas seem good but any shaded spots definitely have some frost. Thx WD
