First hunt of my 2'nd year. Cornfields - 5/29

Met up with the same group I hunted Crow Hill with last week. This time to a corn field in eastern CT. It's freshly turned and has shoots coming up, so much respect was paid to the property. I had to carefully move some plants to get at finds today.

Hot finds today were by our hosts. An 1876 seated quarter with a GCA counter stamp (I'll get a pic), 1888 seated dime, and a large cent that will likely cough up a date. I had a button day. 9 whole, and a few pieces. The dandy turned into a whizzer is cool. Also looks like my first contact with a crotal bell. Any help on the rest of the finds is appreciated. That notched piece with a hole, and one with three points are interesting. Headed back in the AM for a while before the heat kicks in.

some good looking finds Brian , the area has great potential for older coins . best of luck tomorrow !

Nice hunt Bri. The only buttons I dig, say LEVI on them. LOL
Congrats
Brian, those finds look like you were in my neck of the woods
I'm so stupid...I have a few of those whizzer buttons and coins ...but it never occurred to me that the buttons were whizzers like the coins. I thought when the shank fell off and the styles changed they just drilled some holes and sewed the buttons on. The whizzer buttons make more sense. I'm going to have to comb through my "box o' shankless" and get those whizzers out. :)
Thanks! ...and I hope your luck continued today!

I'm just guessing it's a whizzer Drew. The holes are kind of far apart (dunno what the 3'rd hole is for. mistake?) , and square. Like a nail or tool was used to make them. Maybe it's a poor man's whizzer?

Made it out there again this morning for 4 hours or so. Once again my hosts had the coil over the right soil. A large cent each, both appear to be 1820's, and a dentless Zouave ball button, sans shank. My V3i was stuck on it's button setting for a 2'nd day. 5 whole ones, a partial, and a bucket-lister. My first Buff, dateless of course.
Here's a group photo from the two trips, including a better pic of the dandy next to my smallest button yet. The V3i was convinced it was foil. Dig it all.

Thanks everyone!

THANK YOU!!! I was just going through my button pile looking for whizzers and I found a 1700s Chinese cash coin I lost!!

I'm happy with a seated dime for now Al. Dunno why, but I'm really itching to get a large cent or CT copper. A few were dug around me between both days, just not under my coil.
