Found in the woods

I was in the woods at a county park and got a surprising hit away from everything. I dug down about 3 and found this. I've no idea what it is. There are some markings on it but I'll have to de-rust it before I can read it. Guesses, educated or otherwise, are welcome.

It's either a 1994 or 6 Washington Quarter----date didn't photo too well


Is it all the same thickness or does it taper thinner at the rounded end.
Digital or optical illusion?

Nicklehead - One is a 1996 and the other is tapered. :grin:

I found it about 150 yards from a railroad. Someone suggested it might be a track item. Any railroaders out there who might have an idea? Also, after cleaning it I see it has the numbers 5 and 2 on it.
