Fun Day! Seated Dime, Shield Nickel, 9 Indian Heads, 2 Barber Dimes, 2 V Nickels

I have been looking at small town parks on Google again, and today I decided to try one out. I had never been to this town before, it is about a 2 hour drive for me. I got there at about 8:30 this morning.

This town has a large city park that takes up one full block, but I elected to hunt the smaller park that is right across from Main Street. Within 2 minutes of firing up my E-Trac I found an 1880 Indian Head, a good sign of things to come. I hunted this park for six straight hours and found 9 Indian Head Cents, 16 Wheat Cents, 1 Shield Nickel, 2 V Nickels, 1 Seated Dime, 2 Barber Dimes, 1 Mercury Dime, 1 Silver Washington Quarter and 5 store tokens.

I found 9 Indian Heads today which was a new record for me. My previous best was 7 in one day.

The oldest Indian Head is dated 1868. I didn't spend a lot of time on it yet, I think it will clean up better.

I found three old nickels today: 1 Shield Nickel and 2 V Nickels. The Shield Nickel was about 12" away from the seated dime and I wonder if they were from the same spill.

All three of these dimes were pretty deep, about 8" to 9".

I had great luck with the old store tokens today too, I've never found so many in one hunt before!

Pays to do a little homework. Nice finds. 68 Indian is a tough date. I also found an 06 Barber dime today, but mine was an S. As you have the O maybe we could start a set :)
 
looks like yet another great hunt are you having to get farther away now to be able to still find some good areas dennis
 
Wow that park panned out better than one would think. Usually they are hammered. But I'm sure it will be when you get done with it :lol: Super number of good finds.:drool:

Another excellent hunt Tony, Well worth the drive. Even your tokens are awesome.
It looks like the only coin you didn't find was a zinc penny :lolsign:

an unreal hunt! you always manage to pile up the goodies! congrats on a really nice hunt, well worth the drive i would say.

the parks up there must be littered with oldies, for that many to come out of hiding in one hunt. you gotta make plans to hit that park again! lol
 
Tony, looks like from that pile of keepers the long drive was well worth it. Huge :congrats:on all those finds. Even though those dimes were 8-9 inches down I'll bet you didn't mind digging them. A shield, V's, tribe of IH's, and all those store tokens... sweet, sweet, sweet hunt.
 
Great hunt Tony and the sheer number of nice old coins you found are incredible. At this rate, along with your recent '77 IH you may be able to complete the series in short time! By the way, anything particular about this park that piqued your interest? Was it just an out of the way place in a rural town, or was there something more. Just curious.

Tony, you must have been digging keepers every few minutes. Did you have to dig much clad? Are you only paying attention to targets below certain depths? Seriously insane hunt. On the heels of your 1877 IH too...nice!
 
Stellar hunt as usual Tony. Looks like a virgin park you hunted there. The seated dime has beautiful toning to it...love it

I actually try a LOT of different sites, you only hear about the ones that pay off. :thumbsup01: Many times I have tried sites just like this one and found nothing but a few modern clad coins. But this little park did have a couple of huge trees and didn't look like it had any fill dirt, and I just got that "vibe" from it. It is also in a very small town in the middle of nowhere.

Oddly enough, there wasn't much clad in this park, nor much trash. I think that really helped me find the deep older coins.
 
Judging from your nickels it seems your soil is a bit drier or less acidic than here in NY. Shield nickels almost always come out really toasted around here and your Indians look pretty good too.
