Two weekends ago Ted and I hunted a place we door knocked last year. We knew we didn't find it all thumbsup01

Lastweekend we hooked up with Silverstar and Tech125 for some woods hunting.
See the deer?

The second hole I dug was this silver band.

I'm not sure if it's a ring, or a band off a wrist watch... or what it's from. :dontknow:
But if it a ring it's the flattest, smashed ring I've ever seen 8/ lol
IMG_1579.jpg

I did manage a late day Merc plus a few wheaties along the way thumbsup01

I also got out for a few hours today. We once again rehunted a place we door knocked last year. I found this.... thing. :dontknow: lol

IMG_1593.jpg

It's defiantly old. I'm having a hard time cleaning it without taking off the patina. But the more I scrub it the more letters that pop out. lol
So far all I can make out is Scott Maj. G..... :dontknow:
IMG_1595.jpg

After there we rehunted another old stand by were they've recently did some dirt work. Managed a couple of wheaties there...in one hole. lol

Happy Mothers Day to all you moms out there! |) :beerbuddy:

It looks like that could be General Winfield Scott, he was the Commanding General of the US Army during the early Civil War Times. A very interesting man, gourmand, strong Chess Player who played the young 10 years old Paul Morphy and was defeated. Morphy is still considered one of the greatest Chess Players of all time.

Here is bio from Wiki, looks like a super find.

Winfield Scott (June 13, 1786 – May 29, 1866) was a United States Army general, and unsuccessful presidential candidate of the Whig Party in 1852.

Known as &quot:daydream:ld Fuss and Feathers and the Grand Old Man of the Army, he served on active duty as a general longer than any other man in American history, and many historians rate him the best American commander of his time. Over the course of his forty-seven-year career, he commanded forces in the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War, the Black Hawk War, the Second Seminole War, and, briefly, the American Civil War, conceiving the Union strategy known as the Anaconda Plan that would be used to defeat the Confederacy. He served as Commanding General of the United States Army for twenty years, longer than any other holder of the office.

A national hero after the Mexican-American War, he served as military governor of Mexico City. Such was his stature that, in 1852, the United States Whig Party passed over its own incumbent President of the United States, Millard Fillmore, to nominate Scott in the United States presidential election. Scott lost to Democrat Franklin Pierce in the general election, but remained a popular national figure, receiving a brevet promotion in 1856 to the rank of lieutenant general, becoming the first American since George Washington to hold that rank.[1]

Very cool Tim! Great to see you posting again  I love the photos. My first thought is that it is is a barrette (but definitely too recent). The photos show that it is very old.

Tim, even though you are saying that life is hectic right now you sure did get some keepers. Looks like all of your spots produced. Great hunting and thanks for posting

Glad to see a post from you, Tim! We have missed your smilies!

Very nice variety of interesting finds there! I'm not sure what the silver object is. It almost looks too wide to be a ring, but it may be one. Whatever it is it looks old. I love the engraving on it!

I think Bell-Two probably has the correct ID on the other object, but what in the heck is it? It sure is old looking! What an interesting find!

You found a nice pile of old coins too! Congrats on the successful hunts! :clapping:

Thanks Angie! It's nice to get a chance to post a couple of finds. lol
Yeah, I'm not so sure it's ring. :dontknow: Most rings would have the sterling stamp on the inside of the band so you can't see it.
