Half day hunt with Todd & Tom*complete colonial shoe buckle*buttons

I have never heard of the oven and hairspray thing. Can someone explain???

There are other options like clear coat spray paint or clear nail polish. Heating the item up helps the coating stick. It's to preserve it from oxidizing further. Hair spray is the thinnest coat but doesnt stand up to handling very well.

The heat removes any water so it is not trapped in when the hairspray seals the surface from oxygen entering the relic. It is a fast way of cleaning and sealing your relic. The other option is time consuming but lasts longer. Removal of chlorides is the ultimate goal, but realistically, we usually abrade the iron with a wire brush an remove the water and seal it.
