Heavily rusted cap gun

Dug a 1925 National cap gun that has a layer of rust (various degrees) completely covering the toy.

best way to salvage this find?

there are a few ways of doing it , we might be able to give you some good advice after seeing it as it is now Moresound.

the best results that I've ever seen came from electrolysis and or apple cider vinegar .

I've had two heavily rusted items that apple cider vinegar was having a tough time breaking up. On those, electrolysis worked better for me.

I would personally go the electrolysis route myself, I would really like seeing a before shot of this capgun cause I really like checking out the old capguns. I know there's a remarkable restoration of a late 1800's cap gun on treasurenet that a gal from South Carolina found a few years back.
