Wife got me a metal detector (low end Barska) for Christmas. Figured I wouldn't be able to use it till april but this being New England, its been warm enough in February to thaw the ground so...

I fish off a Kayak, mostly salt but I do occasionally fish fresh water rivers and lakes. When the bite is off I would still like something to do. Rivers, lake shores and of course beaches offer some good hunting. There's one place in particular down the cape that I would like to hit and its accessed by boat only. Its a small island that once had a working farm on it, way back in the day. I'm looking forward to learning more and possibly offering up some advice of my own.

Hello and welcome to the forum Dace , your excursion to the island sounds adventurous  please let us know how you do !! Glad you joined .

Welcome Dace. Good to have another Bay-Stater on the forum. I detected on a island site on the upper cape a few times in the past. What you might find is that on the windward side of the island, the targets are quite a bit deeper due to the blowing sand that accumulates over the years. You might find more detecting action on the leeward side.

Thanks for the welcomes guys!

Lodge, the island I'm looking at is on the upper cape. I know in the fishing forums I am active in, spot burning is a no-no. I'll read the rules of the forum before I mention any leads. Again, thanks all for the warm welcomes.
