welcome to the forum from Illinois,,check out the whites M6 it's a great turn on and go machine.

JT is right, the M6 is a great detector for coins, relics, etc. It gets very good depth and with the 5.3 coil, is great in trash.

What would you say the avg depth of the m6 is?

the m6 is a nice machine and the depth is good from what i hear but i would recommend a more of an entry level machine , the price is more affordable and its probably a little easier to use as well. also say you try metal detecting and find out its not your cup of tea your not out a whole bunch of money when you try to re-sell it and hey if you decide you do like detecting you can always trade up or use your starter machine for a good backup. entry level machines are garret's 250 , whites coinmaster or prizm models , minelab's x-terra models , hope this helps .
