Hunting with Lee - Silver and Gold

Tuesday Lee and I got together in his neck of the woods. He had lined up a cellar hole and a 1690's house...:cheesysmile:.

First we go to the cellar hole which is right off the road so assuming that it has been hit before. It was on a hillside so we traveled up to the top where the land flattened out. My first good hit was a 1944P war nickel. Been quite a while since I've gotten one of those. Next was an ox knob, again sounding really good. I started to grid a small patch of dead ferns and that is where I got the dog ID(not having a better way to describe it)
How old it is I don't know but it has CONN instead of CT so some age anyway. Wish it had a date on it.

Don't know if Lee is going to post his finds or not, if not I will update later.

We then pack it up and move over to the 1690's house. After a nice conversation with the homeowner we start detecting. I kept getting memorials and clad, memorials and clad. Okay what's up???? Moved out to near the street and that's where the merc showed her lovely face. While I was in this area I hear Lee hooting and hollering and doing this butt shaking dance. Now he has my interest and he comes over and puts this item in my hand....OMG. But you'll have to wait to see if Lee posts.....sorry. He then looks at the merc and says he has two wheats. Continuing along out front I'm getting more memorials and clad???? Finally a wheat pops up, a 1916D.

Once again I had brought along some Tootsie Pops and they seem to be working.....:lol:

A quick Google search shows us that Gertrude Zapf was the class treasurer of the East Hartford High School class of 1944.

That is a very unique dog tag, I've never seen one like it. Great find!

so im just going to add to your post mate.
so as you heard me and al met up in my little part of ct and went to a cellar hole that i found 2 years ago, then lost it 2 weeks later , then found it again 2 weeks ago ......:shocked01: i sometimes forget my own name you know!!... anyway you know what al found and all i found was 2 musket balls a 1998 quarter a 1978 dime and then managed to lose me digger ???? see....i told you..lol.
so there i am looking through the undergrowth ,dead ferns,leaves, sticks and twigs when suddenly it accursed to me i have a metal detector :shocked01::shocked01::shocked01::shocked01:..... anyway the AT pro found my leshe.
the house we detected is called the timothy Stevens house and was built in 1693 , timothy was the first minister of Glastonbury so it has some pedigree , Ive found some old stuff there over the years , silver spoons,George 1st coppers all in near perfect condition among other things , i get along very well with the lady of the house as she was married to a Brit who sadly died about 10 years ago so she is always over the moon when i invade her house "oh the tea flows freely".
anyway, i got a couple of wheats and later a nice 1900 Indian but in between i get a jumpy chattering signal at 8 inches which takes me a a few minuets to find coz its small...... out pops a gold tooth !!!! , the gold dance ensued with me shaking me ass in al's general diection.
anyway here is some pics.

Nice finds Lee! I've seen a tooth found as a surface find but never a gold tooth. Congrats!

Al , congrats on the vintage dog tag and the oxknob , its definitely never a dull moment detecting with Lee :lol: the gold tooth is a first for me to see :notworthy:.

Congrats to you Al. What a great place to be able to return to. Seems like you seem to find laughs and relics each time a hunt involves Lee! While not as old as many relics, your dog tag is a great find. Just love older things with writing on them, and especially something like your find where you can tie some history or an individual to it.

Nice finds Al, and Lee. I had to wait until Lee posted his finds... and then wait some more to comment. Lol. The last war nickel I got rang lower than a regular nickel despite having ANY silver content.
Lee, I bet you felt like the guy picking up the gold tooth in the (1988 film) Bloodsport. Lol. So far this year seems the be the one with intriguing finds from my medal spill to your gold tooth to Dave's silver dentures.
