I hit a big one tonight

I went to a new permission tonight at a 1950s house but research told me there was a house there in the 1800s. I dug this Malitia Plate 1818-30 at more than a foot down. Why why why did someone cut the shield out ?? Anyway I'm very happy to have it.

Im told that the cut out the shield "thing" was a protest of some sort.

I suspect that the shield area may have been cracked at some point ( if the buckle is bent or damaged the deep crease around the shield is often the weak point where it happens) and someone may have finished the job of removing it completely .

Regardless it is an outstanding find Todd :clapping::clapping:and some would pay good money to have an early militia buckle (Dave wise) in their collection :yes:. You may have another solid contender for relic of the month my friend , congrats again !
