Infantry Eagle Button and a Little Bit of Silver!

Noah and I went back to one of our favorite towns yesterday. We decided to try our favorite house just one more time. We have hit this yard probably 6 or 7 times already. We've hit it with Daddy Digger, Digger Odell and Hiluxyota and it somehow always produces. I got a 12-24 on the etrac, dug the hole and pulled out a very cool infantry eagle button. My first!
I tried looking it up, although there are many very similar to it, I have not been able to find the exact same one. I was hoping it was Civil War, but I have been told by a couple of friends that it is probably later.


After digging 13 seated coins last year, I finally dug my first one this year, an 1887S dime.

Congrats on the finds, this is my favorite time of the year to go out. I recently bought a 87 or 88 "s" dime but maybe I could of waited. Congrtas WD

Don, after looking very carefully at your button and comparing it to the pictures in the book I think your button is after 1865. The two details that I focused on were the very long tail feathers and the arrangement of the olive leaves/olive. The eagle's tail is somewhat triangular in shape with the middle feather being longest. Only a few pre-1865 designs have this feature. On your button there are 3 olive leaves along the top of the stem with an olive at the end. None of the pre-1865 designs have this. Sorry bro.

It came out of the house where you dug the seated dime, silver thimble & silver spoon. That yard just keeps giving!
