Hey diggers,
Yesterday while detecting the curb strip next to an 1849 house I got a nice 12-16 signal only 3 inches deep. Don could hear me making Ooooh Ooooh sounds all the way across the yard! I knew it was a military button but I didn't know exactly which one. I thought at first it was Civil War. I posted it on Facebook in a group for military buttons.

Turns out it's a late 1800s to 1902 staff button. To make it even better, it's from the Philippine-American War!

The buttons were actually made in the Philippines and are a little more crude than their American counterparts. On my button the eagle is holding the arrows in his right talons instead of the left as is tradition. I don't know if that was intentional or not.

I even found a picture of it on a museum uniform!
