Is this a real penny?

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? The penny is almost the size of a nickle, it has very much detail. I'ts not copper, it nay be aluminum. Has some corrosion on it,and is not completely round.It was found in my Mother in laws belongings[attachimg=1] after she passed away.

I have one just like it. I can't remember where it came from. Nor do I know the story behind it either.
