I haven't been posting much and I have a coin I found this year I thought I would show in hopes of finding more info on what family it belongs to. The bust is counterfeiting the George II young head. (1729-39) and the reverse 1775 King George the III. Also the other coins were dug the same day at the same site, Also found a large French made Continental USA button from this site. Thanks for looking HH

its a very interesting coin Coop the bust is not an exact "young head" match as you can tell if you put the other young head George coin side by side . any way you could do a picture of them side by side?? definitely a counterfeit coin and not a very good one as most colonists back then would of certainly known the difference as to which ruler would of been on the thrown in 1775. still doesn't explain why it was made this way though.

I know it not an exact match but that's the style its depicting. Im not exactly sure why they were made that way. Did u see the date on the Connecticut copper? I dont have the holed KG II anymore so I cant post pic side by side.

i'll give the Connecticut book i have a look to see if there are any close but i suspect its just the way the dirt or damage on the coin is , similar to how it almost looks like another 7 over the 8 . you almost never see a double or triple date error on these coins because they were not repunched the doubling would be more of the whole reverse because the entire die moved while it was being pressed.

That's true but even under a loop it looks like another 7. Maybe added with a printing plate engraving tool? I will try and get a better pic. thanks for the help.

Some great coppers Coop. Love the Geo III or II, or whatever it is  The CT copper looks strange at first glance, but I'm thinking the top part of that last (extra) 7 is just a part of the double line that separates the date from lady britannia. Love the landscape Vermont :loveit:

Coop your Connecticut is a Miller 33.37-Z.9 variety type , there is definitely no "doubling" of parts of the date . its a nice example of that coin Coop

heres a link to coinfacts on that particular type
http://www.coinfacts.com/colonial_coins/connecticut_coppers/1787_ct_coppers/1787_ct_copper_miller_33.37_Z.09.htm

and the Vermont copper looks like the RR-2 variety , again here is a link to that coin on coinfacts

Thanks for the info!!!
