My First Gold!!

Outlaw 1-3

New member
Found this earring in a park in McAllen, Texas early this morning. It was about 4 inches down and wiped absolutely clean without any effort, so I was pretty excited. I saw the writing on the back and suspected it could be gold, so I took it to a pawn shop and asked them to test it. They put it under a loupe, and the writing said 14k. They tested it and confirmed it was gold, although the stone is fake. They offered me $50 for it. Knowing that pawn shops generally offer about 35% of spot value, I'd estimate the value around $150. I'm pretty excited!!!

:clapping: :clapping: well done Outlaw, you may want to check another pawnshop or jeweler to confirm that the rock is not real, as earrings dont have alot of weight to them and it sure would be tough for them to sell just one earring :thinkingabout:

First gold!!!! What a great feeling, congatulations. don't forget the happy dance or two (dozen). Then say
ON TO THE NEXT

Yeah, Dale ... not a bad idea. However, most pawn shops - at least in south Texas - simply melt most scrap gold and silver they get. But I should probably get a second opinion on the stone. :)
