Need help with a button

Found a flat button today. It has a good amount of gilt remaining on the back so the backmark really stands out. It says PATENT COLD COLOUR. I appreciate any help with the age, manufacturer, etc. Thanks, Dave.

When you see the U in COLOUR, it generally would mean it was manufactured in Great Britain. I think we are talking circa 1790s-1830s! :congrats:

I have never seen that back mark before though... odd... maybe the experts can chime in a bit more!

Isaac is correct , its definitely an imported button probably British but could also be French as well . Dave if the button is roughly the size or a modern dime to nickle in diameter and about as thick then it can date from just before to about the "Golden age" (1815 to 1850) time period.
