Need some help with a colonial relic

Hey guys, I would appreciate some help with shedding some light on this interesting piece my dad dug in South Carolina at an early 1700s site. It's a lead disc about an inch in diameter with symbols carved into it. In the top row there is the cross of Lorraine and a W and maybe a small x, the middle row has a square with two tick marks, and an I, a W with an umlaut over the first part of the W ( an umlaut is like the thing above this o -> ö) and an o. The bottom row us the 3 numbers 8,6, and 7. Its a very unique piece and I would love if anyone could help me with an ID or set me in the right direction. Thanks!

hey Luke can we get a reverse picture and a item like a modern coin next to it for size??

I think you may be right! Thanks! :) now the question is, what does it say haha!

its possible the information side was damaged in transit and someone re-wrote it by hand because the info is usually stamped into the lead on one or both sides.
