I bought a White's Spectrum XLT E Series in 2000. It took me a year to learn the machine, but I know my machine and my limitations. It is the only detector I have, and I can tweak the programs to my special needs. I have had a lot of fun over the years with it while hunting with other friends who have XLT's and other machines. I put it up for about 3 years when life, job, and health factors got in the way. I lovingly fished it back out at the beginning of this year and was relearning it, having a blast. Then Oklahoma got brutally hot and humid and more health stuff, and well, you know. I took out the batteries and stored it indoors in my closet.
Recovering, I took it out of its case, installed new batteries, and got nothing but a screen flash. My life is over! It's a 25 year old machine with my soul bouncing around inside between the caps and diodes, being filtered and finessed by my special programs, amplified and reduced to a millisecond screen flash. Gloom, despair, and agony on me!
Weeks go by with me calling Garrett's, who gave me Centreville Electronics in VA. Their email is dead, the phone system voicemail is full and after burning it up, I finally got to leave a message, with no reply.
I petitioned to local stereo repair shops who won't touch it, and friends who won't touch it. I finally got in touch with a detector shop in Texas. Metal Detecting Stuff. He pointed me to another Centreville Electronics in Oregon. Oregon! That's where White's was born and raised! The fella in Texas said Todd will fix me up!
I emailed Todd and he called! He actually CALLED!
He said he could fix it like new for $80 labor, plus parts plus shipping.
So, if anyone is interested in Todd Marshall, a 28 year service tech for White's to fix their old White's machines, here you go.
